Try repairing Office. See https://support.office.com/en-NZ/Article/Repair-an-Office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b. If that doesn't help, remove Office and reinstall it. See https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Uninstall-Office-2013-or-Office-365-from-a-Windows-computer-9dd49b83-264a-477a-8fcc-2fdf5dbf61d8?ui=en-US&rs=en-US. Make sure that you have the Microsoft account tied to your subscription or a product key if you have another type of license. Then you can reinstall Office as described at https://products.office.com/en-us/download-back-up-restore-microsoft-office-products.

What happens when you try and open a doc file? Is there any error message?
Can you create new documents and then save, close and re-open them?
Hope this helps,Doug Robbins - Word MVP

I don't think you read my post.
1) I already uninstalled/removed the thing. (There's no getting it back because 'restore' files doesn't work.)
2) Yes, I am signed into my account, which notes I have uninstalled the damn thing.
3) I have attempted repair several times.
4) I have downloaded and attempted to install a new version 5 times already.
5) I just attempted again.

I don't think you read my post. I don't have Office 365 any more. I removed/uninstalled it after I attempted to open a doc file and was told Word was corrupted or something similar. So started along the all too familiar Microsoft nightmare. The original install was done by the technicians at the store where I bought this HP computer. He appeared to know what he was doing.
BTW, I can't read the document with Wordpad either.

Maybe the problem was the document, not the application.
If you want to send the document to me, I will see if I can open it. Mention this thread in the email so that I will know why it has been sent to me.
As your problem with re-installing a copy that works might result from some traces of an earlier installation still being present, download the fixit from the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501
saving it to your computer and then run it.
Then reinstall Office by logging into www.office.com/myaccount with your registered email address and click Install Office.

Hi, Doug--
I have sent you the doc. It may well have been corrupted but, the fact remains I'm now stuck without Word.
I downloaded this doc several times (from an editing service I work for) and couldn't open any of them, fwiw.

OK, as I was able to open the document without problems on computers running
Word 2013 on Windows 7
Word 2013 on Windows 8
Word 2013 on Windows 8.1
Word 2013 on Windows 10
we can rule out the problem being with the document itself.

Of course I read your message. Working through manual steps of uninstallation may sometimes be necessary.

Well, I got through about step 7 on this:
But I only have so many hours a day to trying to fix a new MS product on a brand new HP laptop. I can't face doing the registry now. How many more hours might be ahead of me? Ten? 20?
On the first part I got this: ERROR: invalid argument/option - ' /delete/tn'
In Step 3, there weren't any of the processes found
Ditto step 4
In step 5, the FFPackageLocker folder didn't exist.
This Office 365 is probably an even bigger disaster than windows 8.

This is what I get now when I try to install:
We're sorry, we couldn't install Office because there isn't enough free space on your hard drive. We'll need 2195 MB of free disk space to install. Go online for additional help. Error Code: 30179-4
I deleted everything in the recycle bin and also the downloads (especially the numerous downloads of Office 365). For a brand new HP laptop there doesn't seem to be much space at all. I haven't even copied all the documents from my old list asus netbook, which also had many programs on it, including Office 10. (I never ran out of space and even had hundreds of documents in the recycle in.)BUT Office 365 was installed here before, so it seems to me I should be able to do so again.
Is this Office 363 much, much bigger than Office 10? If I install Office 10 instead, will I have more space?
